Original form – The Landlord’s Game by Elizabeth (Lizzie) Maggie Henry George – only fair tax is a ‘single’ tax on Landlords, or Monopolists, as they control the economic system and hence livelihoods of all others. They profit through both rent and the appreciation of property values. Maggie’s idea – invent a game that showed the causes and effects of the Georgian single tax idea – it was used as a teaching tool in Wharton where students learned that the way to win the game was by bankrupting all opponents through rent gouging. The original game included a second round designed to teach George’s single tax idea. That round was eliminated for being too complex. Rebranded as Monopoly in 1933 The United States – a Nation of Immigrants? America promised: 1. political freedom 2. civic equality 3. economic opportunity American immigration is unique because of the variety of immigrant backgrounds: Europe Asia
