Message Production as Goal Pursuit When thinking about compliance gaining, a useful framework = GOALS -Persuasive Definition: -Goals = future states of affairs that we want to attain or maintain -Our Focus: Interaction goals Multiple Goals -Communication accomplished multiple objectives (they explain behaviors not behaviors them self) Goals vary in abstraction Some are general Some are specific Goals vary in prominence Primary goal = defines what a communicator is doing Secondary goal = shapes how primary goals are pursued.
