Introduction Objective 1. To determine the calcium, manganese and copper in a mixture solution by ICP. 2. To study the effect of Al 3+ + on the determination of calcium using ICP spectrometry. Theory Plasma emission spectroscopy is one of the newest tools in elemental analysis of the metal. It is based on the same physical principle as these techniques; that is, atoms are generated and elevated to an excited state. They then relax to a lower excited state or ground state and in the process emit radiation at characteristic wavelengths. The energy levels involved that are quantized are the same as those discussed in atomic absorption and flame photometry. In plasma emission the atoms are generated and excited by s plasma torch with much greater energy (higher temperature). Two principle types of plasma are available: the DC plasma and the Inductivly Cubple Plasma (ICP), or RF plasma. A third type is the microwave – induced plasma. This hold the least pomis since it is subjected to the most vaiations in quantitative signls. 1
