Chem 1AA3 - Chapter 14 Objectives 1 14. Chemical Kinetics Material covered You are responsible for understanding all the sections of Chapter 14, except as noted below. Two sections will be covered out of order, Ch. 14-4 after Ch. 14-5, and Ch. 14-9, after Ch. 14-11. It is not necessary to memorize the specific reactions given as examples in the text, though you should understand them and be able to work with them. For example, it is not necessary to memorize H 2 O 2 breakdown (p. 574) nor memorize its reaction with MnO 4 - (p. 575). However, you should understand how the MnO 4 - reaction is used to study H 2 O 2 breakdown. You are responsible for knowing the reactions in the slides. (You already know most of them from Chapter 26.) Material not covered You are not responsible for the following material in Chapter 14: p. 587 - 588. The integrated rate equation (14.18) and the half-life equation (14.19) for second order reactions. Note that we will be covering the other aspects of second order reactions. p. 600 - 601.
