Giulio Caccini (1580-1618). Wrote a series of songs for lute and bass Figured bass – told lutenist how to fill in the harmony Basso Continuo – continuous bass line Approach to dissonance  Prima practica Seconda practica The first compose to include all of these new techniques in his compositions  is the opera composer Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643). In his opera “L’Orfeo”,  based on the Greek story Orfeo ed Euridice, a constant motion of the bass  line, the elegant use of dissonance, figured bass and the polarization or  melody and accompaniment are all present.
