IDE/ATA Interface   The interface used to connect a disk drive to a PC is called IDE  Integrated Drive Electronics ). It means that the interface or controller are  incorporated   into the drive   electronics and not on a separate board. Technically, the correct name is ATA but most use the IDE designation. The primary purpose of the disk controller, or interface, is to transmit  and receive data. ATA is a 16-bit parallel interface. Maximum cable length 45cm
