6 Video card interface – AGP The preferred solution. Utilizes the AGP bus Most cards today are usually 2x/4x speed High end system may have 8x interface Not all motherboards support the 8x speed yet Prices vary between $45 and $600

7 Digital Video Interface – DVI DVI is a form of interface technology made to maximize the quality of flat panel displays. Today most cards include both a VGA and a DVI output port. DVI FORMATS DVI-D - True Digital Video - used to connect direct digital signals adapter card LCD (or rare CRT) monitors. All video cards initially produce a digital video signal, which is converted into analog at the VGA output. The analog signal travels to the monitor and is re-converted back into a digital signal. DVI-D eliminates the analog conversion process. DVI-A - High-Res Analog – carries a DVI signal to an analog display i.e. a CRT monitor or an HDTV. Some signal quality is lost in the conversion, beter quality picture than VGA. DVI-I - The Best of Both Worlds - integrated cables capable of transmitting digital-to-digital signal or analog-to-analog signal . usable in either digital or analog situations.

8 PCI VS AGP The normal PCI-bus is 32-bit wide and is clocked at 33 MHz 33*4 bytes/s=133MB/s AGP 1x 66*4=266 AGP 2x works like DDR on rise and fall of clock pulse resulting in 133*4=533 Mb/s AGP 4x doubles the width 133*4*2=1066 MB/s AGP 8x doubles again 266*4*2=2 Gb/s
