Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 64/118 of 16 December 2009 and upon the recommendation of the Ad Hoc Committee established by the General Assembly in its resolution 51/210 of 17 December 1996, the Sixth Committee decided, at its 1st meeting, on 4 October 2010, to establish a working group with a view to finalizing the draft comprehensive convention on international terrorism and to continue to discuss the item included in its agenda by the Assembly in its resolution 54/110 of 9 December 1999, in which the Assembly addressed the question of convening a high-level conference under the auspices of the United Nations. 2. At the same meeting, the Sixth Committee elected Mr. Rohan Perera (Sri Lanka) as Chair of the Working Group. It also decided to open the Working Group to all States Members of the United Nations or members of the specialized agencies or of the International Atomic Energy Agency. 3. In keeping with its established practice, the Working Group decided that members of the Bureau of the Ad Hoc Committee would continue to act as Friends of the Chair during the meetings of the Working Group. Accordingly, Ms. Maria Telalian (Greece), Ms. Ana Cristina Rodríguez-Pineda (Guatemala) and Mr. Andi Xhoi (Albania) served as Friends of the Chair. Since Ms. Namira Nabil Negm (Egypt) was no longer available to serve in this capacity, the Group of African States nominated Mr. Dire David Tladi (South Africa) to join the Friends of the Chair. The Working Group expressed its appreciation for the valuable contribution
