Lymphocytes: B cells and T cells ii. Immunological Memory (an enhanced response to a foreign molecule encountered previously) a. Both: have receptors that recognize foreign epitopes i. 1 lymphocyte has only one epitope it recognizes ii. Activated lymphocytes undergo cell division into activated cells and memory cells iv. B&T cells require both antigen and cytokines to be activated and multiply b. T-cells: triton shaped with alpha and B subunits i. Can only bind to antigen fragment presented by surface by host cells ii. Active version: cytotoxic and helper c. B-cells: Y shaped with (2 heavy and 2 light chains) i. Can bind to intact antigen (free or on surface) ii. Active: plasma cells d. i. Diversity: allows to identify/kill many different stuff…
