DEFINITIONS OF PARADIGMS AND MEXICAN BORDER 2 There are few major paradigms in sociology that view the United States and Mexico border all differently . The first of which is The Conflict Theory. The conflict perspective focuses on conflict over scarce and valued resources and the strategies dominant groups use to create and protect social arrangements that give them an advantage over subordinated groups . In comparison to functionalists, who look at order and stability, conflict theorists focus on conflict as an inevitable fact of social life and as the most important agent for social change . Conflict can take many forms, including disagreement, physical confrontations, and hospitality . Conflict theorist ask this question: Who benefits from a particular social pattern or arrangement, and at whose expense? Conflict theorist in looking at the border fences, would point out that this fence divides a high-wage economy where they can make 60 dollars a day, to a low-wage economy where they might make 5 dollars a day . They will also look at the idea of what will happen to the job market . Since the 1880s it has been the employers on the U.S. side that have determined the size and destination of migration flows to the United States . They say that all evidence leads them to believe that there will always be a substantial number of Mexicans workers in the United States . This is because the U.S. employers are so dependent on the foreign workers to work on the low-wage job, so they can make a profit . So when you ask a conflict theorist who is the winner for them it is simple, the winners here are the U .S. employers and consumers. They benefit from the illegal immigrants and how they work for low-wage to support their families
