My Professional Development Plan Starting out in middle school the main question people ask you is what you want to do with your life? Then when you go to high school it turns into what career path are you choosing? Then when you get to where I am, a college student, now that you have chosen your career where do you plan to be in 5 years? What about ten years or more? Ten months ago I couldn’t answer this question. I was sitting at home one day, playing on Facebook when I came across an ad for the University of Phoenix. I clicked on the ad and put my information in and within minutes I got a call from Ryan, He is now my enrollment counselor. One of the first things he asked me was where I saw myself and my family in 5 years. I simply answered I want to be a teacher. Well I am about to start my 5 th set of classes and I think I have a better more detailed answer for that question. I should be done with my associates’ degree program by April of 2012. In order for me to accomplish my goal there are a lot of steps that I have to complete. First of all I have to graduate with my associate’s degree. Once I get that then I will be able to be a substitute teacher in my local school district. This will help give me the classroom experience while still allowing me time to continue my education. During this time I will also be pursuing my bachelor’s degree. This will allow me to get a teaching license in my home state and be a teacher at a public school. By this time I will have the classroom experience I need and I will also be more educated in the teaching field. When it comes to where I want to be in the next 10 years, that is a little far for me to look at. However I do know that I want to have my master’s degree. While this is my plan I am sure that I will
