Nutrition 10 •We often hear things like… square4 Cleansing diets clear toxins from our body square4 Going organic will prevent cancer square4 Eating before you go to bed will make you fat square4 Coconut oil has anti-aging properties How do you know what you hear is true? But maybe also because we believe what we hear without questioning? Nutrition 10 You Can’t! The Reality: Not everything you see, hear or read is true!! • The nutrition industry is a big business • Truth in advertising? (FTC, FDA) • People will believe almost anything!! square4 People lack scientific knowledge, so they are vulnerable square4 Low standards for establishing belief • Testimonials vs valid scientific studies • Marketing hype vs facts square4 People will believe what they want to believe • Why let the facts get in the way?!
