Alejandro Alemann February 28, 2011 Professor Wilson True West I saw True West in the Hot City Theatre on February 10 th . Hot City Theatre is a black box theatre so the dimensions of the stage and audience were small. When I saw the play there were about thirty people in attendance. The play was written by Sam Shepard and adopted by the director Doug Finlayson. The play is based on two brothers Lee and Austin. Austin who is a screenwriter, is house sitting for his mom when Lee his older brother appears at the house. Lee is a loner and a thief who has been living in the desert. The brothers are estranged and Lee is the dominant force throughout most of the play. Austin is working with his movie producer Saul, on a movie script. However Lee beats Saul on a betting round of golf. As the result of this bet, Saul must take Lee’s movie. Saul then cancels Austin’s project to work on Lee’s. When Austin finds out, he drinks himself into a stupor and begins to become reckless and steals twenty toasters from
