Soc 120 Professor Lubsen 23 November 2010 The Difference Between Spirituality and Religion "Live a good life . If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by . If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them . If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones” (Religious Tolerance) . Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from 161 to 180, said these great words, and these words relate perfectly to the connection between Religion and Spirituality . While there are many small differences between religion and spirituality, in the grand scheme of things, they are very similar . All and all, Religion can be seen all over the world . It has and will be around forever . However, religions vary upon time and place . Taking two present-day religions, for example, Christianity and Islam, shows the vast differences in sets of beliefs . Christianity, on one hand holds the complex idea of three gods in one ( Basics of Christianity) . Furthermore, Christianity is founded on the writings of the Gospels and the rest of the Bible . Christianity is about a personal relationship with God, in which he guides our actions in a way so we can enjoy eternal life, if we choose to follow him
