Can one be good or ethical without god? Religions say; -Catholics think this is true that one can be good without special revelation by god -basic prohibitions in natural life such as intentionally killing another, stealing, and adultery are understood without revelation but by natural law. (Romans 1:20) Aquinas says; synesis (habit of judgement in realistic, individual cases which is distinguished from reason in action (prudence) simply because the final judgment about what is to be done differs from executing the actual judgment) -basic moral truth is what one must know to be saved -theoretical moral account is what one must know in order to possess a satisfactory account of what is required to be saved. -intellectual awareness required for salvation is modest according to Aquinas’ view he says that one must merely believe in god and his providence (Summa Theologiae) -on the other hand, how god saves his people involves the relationships of faith and reason, nature and grace, old law and new law, virtues acquired and virtues infused
