Organizational Culture Intro o Organizational culture may be defined as the specific collection of norms, standards, and values that are shared by members of an organization and effect the way an organization does business o Employees are not controlled y some external system of constraint But instead they internalize the norms and values of the organization and make them part of their own value system The value of culture for an org is its ability to specify norms and values that govern employee behavior and solve the agency problem o Socialization is the term used to describe how people learn organizational culture o Since both an organization’s structure and its culture shape employees’ behavior, it is crucial to match organization structure in order to implement strategy o In general, organizational culture is the product of strategic leadership Culture and strategic leadership o Org culture is created by the strategic leadership provided by an organization’s found and top managers The org’s found imprints their values and management style on the org o Overtime the leadership style established by the found is transmitted to the
