Ops Session 2 Operations and Strategy and Productivity o Broad policies and plans for using the resources of a firm to best support it’s  long-term competitive strategy Integrated with the corporate strategy Involving decisions that relate to the design of a process and the  infrastructure needed to support the process Includes technology, inventory, location, capacity, etc. Hierarchy of Strategic Roles o Stage 1 – internally neutral (don’t mess up) o Stage 2 – externally neutral (keep up with competitors) o Stage 3 – internally supportive (be consistent with corporate strategy) o Stage 4 – externally supportive (be a full partner in the company) Strategic dimensions/priorities o Cost or price – commodity like items o Quality Design quality – high performance Process quality – consistency o Delivery speed – is it fast?
