ENGL 701/WINCH Fall ’10 ESSAY TWO Choose one of the following options and write a clear, concise, properly documented essay. Length : an absolute minimum of four full pages; this does not mean three and one-half or three and three-quarters, but FOUR pages plus your works cited. I will not read any essay which is less than four pages. Due : Either Wednesday, October 20 or Monday, October 25, depending upon your conference day. Objectives : this essay asks you to construct an argument around a given subject; use applied theory to construct a framework from which to analyze that subject; make co- gent connections between your subject, the theoretical framework, and your thesis. Option 1 : Fairy tales seem to be an integral part of childhood, those fanciful stories which we found exciting and compelling because of the imaginative places and creatures they gave us. However, is it possible there are more to these tales than just colorful stories? Do they encode culturally specific gender messages?
