ENGL 701/WINCH Fall ’10 ESSAY THREE Choose one of the following options and write a clear, concise, properly documented essay. Length : an absolute minimum of five full pages; this does not mean four and one-half or four and three-quarters, but FOUR pages plus your works cited. I will not read any essay which is less than four pages. Due : In class Wednesday, November 18. Objectives : this essay asks you to do additional research to construct an argument around a given subject; use applied theory to construct a framework from which to ana- lyze that subject; make cogent connections between your subject, the theoretical frame- work, and your thesis. Option 1 : Johnson, Enloe and Connell both maintain that violence plays an integral role in both the construction of a collective hegemonic masculinity and the maintenance of a patri- archal order; furthermore, all of the authors we have read in conjunction with this unit assert that such forms are readily produced and reproduced via popular culture, and
