Axia College Material Appendix B Research Methods Matrix A psychologist is planning to conduct a study that would examine pathological liars and the quality of their romantic relationships. You have been asked to provide the psychologist with a recommendation for which research method should be used to gather data on the pathological liars and their spouses . Using the table below list each research method and its advantages and disadvantages for use in this study. Research Method Advantages Disadvantages naturalistic observation Allows for clean unnoticed study of subject. Can be expensive and time consuming. Case study’s Gives good bases for future cases, and helps with brain injuries. Does not help with unique cases or circumstances. Correlational research Helps with the relationship of a diagnosis with that of a future illness Does not give exacts with cause and effect

Surveys Gets interesting information about peoples beliefs and wants and needs. They cannot make predictions or determine cause or effect, because it relies on people telling the truth. Make your recommendation to the psychologist and explain the rationale behind your choice. Your response should be 100-200 words. I recommend the use of Naturalistic Observation. This is where you observe the person in their own environment to determine their behavior and actions. The reason that I think this is the best way to do it is because it would allow for an unbiased and unknown study. Small camera can be placed in a natural environment in noticed by the subjects, and they will then act normally which will help the study. BEH 225...
