Bill Frino CMIS 335P Harley Davidson Case September 27, 2010 1. What are the strengths and weaknesses of Harley-Davidson? Harley Davidson has very strong marketing, distribution and service ability in the United States. However, limited ability to develop new non-traditional and technologically sophisticated products leaves Harley Davidson very vulnerable strategically. Also, limited global marketing and distribution constrains growth potential. 2. What are the opportunities and threats facing Harley-Davidson? They were faced with an aging baby-boomer populations and the weakness of the U.S. Dollar. Also, the probability that retail sales would continue to spiral downward which in turn would cause excess inventory of overpriced motorcycles. 3. What are the strategic factors facing Harley-Davidson? Harley has chosen the strategic direction of targeting a younger market that is technologically conscious in order to increase its share in the performance cruiser market space. With the introduction of the new V-Rod motorcycle, Harley Davidson is in a position of attaining a sizeable share in the performance cruiser marketplace. 4.
