Bill Frino March 11, 2010 CMIS 416 Computer Networks Mid-Term Exam Due 1. Define broadcasting, multicasting, and unicasting. Broadcasting is the distribution of audio and/or video signals which transmit programs to an audience. The audience may be the general public or a relatively large sub-audience, such as children or young adults. Multicast addressing is a network technology for the delivery of information to a group of destinations simultaneously using the most efficient strategy to deliver the messages over each link of the network only once, creating copies only when the links to the multiple destinations split. In computer networking, unicast transmission is the sending of messages to a single network destination host on a packet switching network. 2. What is the popular name of a wireless method used for personal area networks? Wireless local area networks? Some popular names of personal area networks are WPAN’s, Bluetooth, and Untra-widebands.
