Problem 6-5 p. 287 a) Adding a single piece of equipment that costs $1000 to produce any Aqua-Spa Hydro-Luxes reduces net profit by $1000. Since this cost does not have any effe how many Aqua Spas or Hydro Luxes he makes, it is irrelevant to the decision so don't need to include it in the formulation. b) The new formulation adds two decision variables, Y1 = 1 if any Aqua-Spas are made, 0 otherwise. Y2 = 1 if any Hydro=Luxes are made, 0 otherwise. The new objective function is: MAX 350 X1 + 300 X2 - 900 Y1 - 800 Y2 and the new constraints are ST pumps 1 X1 + 1 X2 <= 200 labor hours9 X1 + 6 X2 <= 1,520 tubing feet 12 X1 + 16 X2 <= 2,650 linking Y1 X1 - Min(200/1,1520/9,2650/12)*Y1 <= 0 linking Y2 X2 - Min(200/1,1520/6,2650/16)*Y2 <= 0 X1, X2 must be nonnegative integers Y1, Y2 must be binary
