1. What capacity problems are encountered when a new drug is introduced to the market? May need to buy new equipment, and it will take a while to get delivered, installed, tested, and running properly. We will need to find a source for all materials needed. Find supplier for machinery, compounds, and materials needed. 2. List some practical limits to economies of scale; that is, when should a plant stop growing? If a plant grows large enough, all of the support systems will become large enough that they would get in the way of production. There can be diseconomies of scale if a plant grow large enough material will have to move so far and people would have to walk far that they would have to pay so much to move things around. Money could be saved if we build separate and smaller plants. 3. What are some capacity balance problems faced by the following organizations or facilities? a. An airline terminal. b. A university computing center. c. A clothing manufacturer. a. In the airline industry, they can encounter problems dealing with capacity management such as the ability of airline companies to produce numerous flights in various destinations without being delayed. The main challenge is to increase the productivity of the airlines without comprising the quality of service. b.
