Kimberly Hargraves Humn 211 3-20-11 Literary forms in the Bible Genesis is called the first book of Moses. It is the book of the beginnings. In this prologue, God’s sovereign work in Abraham’s family to accomplish His good will for all nations. In Genesis 7:11 , “floodgates of the heavens” is a metaphor. Exodus is called the second book of Moses. The first section is written as an epic, portrays God as the Savior and provider for his people. The section second of Exodus is a series of detailed laws and instructions. In Exodus 15:1-18, 21 , "The Song of the Sea”, is a poem that mixes the traits of a hymn of praise, coronation song, and a litany. Leviticus is the third book of Moses. Leviticus shows how the Israelites could live in ritual and moral purity. Personification is a figure of speech which takes a human characteristic and applies it to an object, quality, or idea. Leviticus 18:25 , “the land vomits out its inhabitants” is an example of personification. Numbers is the fourth book of
