Philoctetes 86-120 o “Natural Antipathy” – characteristic inherited from his father o Philoctetes sees discrepancy of whay Neo wants to do and what he has to do o Nature vs. non-nature o “Bad men’s leeching” has made Neo step outside his nature o At least Od’s language is true to his nature (he speaks the way he is) – Sophocles 1045-52 “Nature” – chameleon-like – reduced notion of nature Among just men, Od is just and good – not so good elsewhere It is the tongue that wins, not the deed o Neo’s decision to return to cave – returning to nature (1240-6) There is something better than cleverness – it is justice o Rejoining army is the only way he will be healed (Phil) o Phil persuades Neo to take him back to Greece o Natural for Phil and Neo to go back home; only a god can intervene (Heracles)
