History of Myths Myths are typically written in Greek and Latin Greece: mountainous, had valleys o Separate city-states o Athens: place where 3 authors were from o Mycenaie: home of King Agamemnon His brother, Meneleus, was king of Sparta Meneleus’s wife was Helen, who ran off with a Trojan prince named Paris Journey from Sparta to Troy o Ithaca: where Odysseus is from o Thebes: Theben cycle Periods of Greek History Mycenaean Bronze Age 1550-1050 BC o Mycenaeans come into contact with Crete – influenced by “Minoan” civilization o Dominated by kings and nobles – bury dead with riches o Rich civilizations, huge palaces o Used bronze o Clay tablet written in linear B script; historians discovered this is Greek Used for inventory records, bills, receipts, etc.
