1 Zharia Harris Dr. Chisholm Freshman Composition 1 November 2019 Conquering Pain Pain, we all know it, we’ve all dealt with it, and we all hate it more than anything in this world. Pain is something that nobody likes, wants, or wishes, but is always there. No matter how many times we try or how HARD we try to avoid it, it’s always around especially, when you least expect it. Pain is the continuous thing in our lives, no matter who you are. Pain is something we wish to escape but we can’t. No matter how many protocols or times we prepare for, pain will always be there for us to experience. For example, when one has children, they “child proof” the area so the baby won’t get into anything they don’t need to be and harm themselves. From day one, we have automatically known what pain was and what it did. As young kids, we didn’t necessarily know exactly what pain was, but we cried or made a face when something didn’t feel normal or comfortable. Once in church, a preacher said, “The day we stop feeling pain, is the day we’re dead”. Hearing that stuck with me going on 3 years now, not only being paranoid, but being assured and prepared. The meaning behind that saying is for us to realize that pain might be hurtful, overwhelming, and even in some cases temporary, that God created pain, so we know what to do and what not to do. Another phrase I remember hearing in church was,” God doesn’t put you through things he doesn’t think you can handle.” Therefore, he believes that we are strong mentally, physically, and spiritually. It also means that he didn’t give up his son to weak people or people he didn’t believe in and want to see grow and succeed.
