Zharia Harris Freshman Composition Dr. Chisholm 29 February 2020 Oedipus Rex and Hamlet Comparison Position Paper In both Hamlet and Oedipus Rex, the protagonists are both in the names of the title. Though the two plays share some similarities, they also share the differences of religious and cultural outlooks of the conclusions on the plays. Both plays deal with tragedies, pain, free will, and ideas about fate. Pain is something we all hate, but we must deal with. One time at church, a preacher said, “If you don’t feel pain, then you aren’t alive”. That stuck out to me and stuck to me and every time I’m in pain, it pops up into my mind. In Hamlet, the main character, Hamlet, is in pain due to the death of his father, who was the King. Hamlet doesn’t show his sorrow and sadness as most people do, he shows it as anger and was a little extra. Hamlet goes buck wild and is mad at the world not only about the death of his father, but also since his mother remarried Hamlet’s uncle soon after the death of her late husband occurred. Oedipus has a lot on his shoulder as well dealing with his mother and his father. His mother committed the horrible thing, which is suicide, all while realizing that he brutally murdered his own father. To make life get any worse, by
