A positive correlation means that as one thing goes up, the other goes up. A negative correlation means that as one thing goes up, the other goes down. For instance, Vangelisti found a negative correlation between ratings of closeness and the distancing effect of hurtful messages. This means that as intimacy in the relationship increased, the likelihood that a hurtful message would lead to withdrawal decreased.} 1. What does Vangelisti mean by an informative message? She found that these were some of the most hurtful messages; why does she say they are so hurtful? Informative messages are those that give information about the receiver. They were the most hurtful because the ability of repairing or offering alternatives to the content of the message is relied on the recipient and the opportunity to repair damages to their own face are severely limited. 2.
