The core benefits of Medigap insurance programs is that it offers, individuals with Medicare the ability to purchase a less expensive supplemental insurance plan to help cover any unpaid amounts not covered by Medicare. Some of these “gaps” would include things such as: non- covered services payments, coinsurance, and yearly deductibles. Medigap policies are sold by private insurance companies as standardized Medigap policies and offer different sets of benefits depending on which one is purchased, and all policies must follow Federal and state laws to protect individuals, not matter which private insurance company is selling it, and must be states as a supplemental insurance. How well does the program meet coverage needs of its consumers? There are 10 to 12 different types of Medicare supplemental policies sold.
