Psychology and Health problems By: Jontovia Watson PSY 210 Darlene Grippo- Sowa In today’s society our lives are influenced by several different factors that have the ability to either affect us in a positive or negative aspect. When these factors build into our daily lives the impact they have plays a major role in our health and psychological being. In order for us to better understand and relate to how these factors are connected to each other, the multi factorial model represents six of these factors.

The first factor represented by the multi factorial model is the biological factor. This factor represents our genetic make up for the most part. This includes but is not limited to our family history of illness, gender, and ethnicity. One of them or a combination can and will play a role in our health and even though not all of these are based on genetics does not mean they will not be influential in our lives. Therefore, in order for these influences to be positive and not negative we must make positive and sound decisions otherwise these influences will impact us negatively as far as our health and psychological being is concerned. Some negative impacts could include heart disease from fatty/ unhealthy dieting and no exercise or even lung cancer from smoking regularly. Some positive impacts that can come from positive choices could be the chance to control or maintain staying healthy by exercising on a regular basis and not smoking or drinking. Even though sometimes it does not matter about the choices so much if your family history plays a part because you could still end up with hypertension or diabetes or some form of cancer but making the right choices will help you better deal with even those types of biological factors. The second factor represented by the multi factorial model is sociocultural factors. This factor represents our social standing as far as family circumstances, access to health care, prejudice and discrimination, and health promotion in the work place or community to name a few. This factor plays a major role in how we choose to live our life. For example our gender and access to healthcare could make us prone to certain health issues such as heart disease or some
