Important People Basil of Caesarea- 330-379 Cappadocian. Known for being a bishop for social activism. Tertullian of Carthage- was a pagan but converted. Earliest writer to use the word trinity in his writings. “Three persons one substance” Clement- Rome pope who talked about division- getting rid of old leaders and new ones are taking their place. Talks about global unity. “sweet exchange” the infinite became finite so the finite could be infinite. Ignatious of antioch- unity of bishops key quote “the Eucharist is the medicine of immortality” antidote against sin. Unity through the church through the bishops. Great foe was dositus Justin Martyr- apologist who uses words and reason to defend the faith. Logos theologian. Logos present in every culture and every human. Jesus was the logos. Everything that is good, true and beautiful is because of the logos. Origen- father martyred. Confessor. He uses plato but doesn’t give him credit.
