Alex Alemann ENGL 190 11/30/08 My thesis statement is that WW II is the most influential war in human history. I am going to defend that statement on a couple of fronts. My main three points are the destructiveness of the war, the cold war, and the technology revolution. There are plenty of arguments to support my claim with those three points. The Cold War consumed world events for forty years. The United States and Soviet Union superpowers were in a constant power struggle. These tensions created two wars the Korean and Vietnam War. The United States focused most of its foreign affairs into dealing with the Soviet Union and its communist satellite countries. There was the Iron Curtain that created a lot of tension. There was always the threat of a nuclear war that had every country worried. The fear was at its maximum during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Due to the Cold War, the United States put a man on the moon. Never before has so many people died in such a short period of time. There were over 70 million military personnel involved in creating this destruction. World War II spawned a lot of new technologies. Jet engines, radar and nuclear bombs are just a few examples. New machines also became more widely used like tanks, aircraft carriers and submarines. These technology advances has altered the way wars currently are being fought and future wars will be fought. Not only have these advances affected the military; it has also affected civilian life as well. Radar is used in airports to direct traffic. Jet engines propel pretty much the entire airline industry. These are just a few examples but there are many more....
