1 February 12, 2009 It is E370 Time!!! Announcements Today’s Goals: You should be able to see more information in formulas. articulate the positive and negative characteristics of measures of spread. estimate relative spread by looking at graphs. predict how descriptive measures will change under specific influences. Next Time–Using Dispersion and Two-variable Relationships Announcements Considering what you know about the mean, the median and the mode, what are “measures of center?” What does “center” mean in this context? BEST ANSWER: They are focal points. Please check Class Announcements. These are two formulas you will know well by the end of the semester. Forget they are formulas and look carefully at them. In your answer to this question: 1) Make a list of everything in the formulas which are the same. 2) Make a list of everything in the formulas which are different. 3) Write one sentence to explain the primary difference between a mean and a variance.
