E4/8 Chris Graflage THEO 221-01 Essay Question 9 Jesus’ Brothers In Mark 3:32-35 Jesus says, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” The answer to the question is yes Jesus has brothers and sisters. Everyone who does his will is part of his family. In Matthew 25:40, “whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” These passages seem to show the reference of Jesus having brothers more of a symbolic meaning. He does not literally mean brothers. Another possibility is that by brother he could mean other family members such as a cousin, or he could be referring to his close friends as brothers. Unformatted text preview: believe in the perpetual virginity of Mary. It would not be scandalous if Mary had other children. Mary is married to Joseph. If she had children she would not be committing adultery or breaking any of the Jewish laws of the time. She would still be seen as the Holy Mother of God abiding the Jewish law. If Mary had children before the birth of Jesus would obviously destroy the doctrine of the Virgin Birth and probably the belief of Jesus as the Son of God. If Mary did have children before the birth of Jesus, it could easily be possible that they were Josephs children from a previous marriage. Since the bible says very little about Joseph and his past, this would obviously be highly speculative....
