September 2010 Dear Parents/Guardians and Students: Welcome to Grade Nine Academic Math! This course continues to develop the students understanding of mathematical concepts, primarily broadening on the topics covered in grade seven and eight, but also introducing new concepts such as slope and equations of lines. It is important for parents and students to know what is required in this course. I encourage you to go over the SIS sheet which gives an overview of the course. The SIS is found on the school website, under the ACADEMIC link. If you are unable to access the SIS at home ask your son/daughter to request one from me and I would be happy to send it home. It is also important for parents to be involved in their child’s education. Be encouraging to your son/daughter by asking what they did in math class each day. There will be homework , so request to see their work! Students will be given time in class to work however, there will be some that requires completion at home.
