Statistical Analysis for Business Decision Fall, 2010, TR 10:30 - 11:45AM G102 Instructor: Ina Sebastian, Busad A202 e-mail: [email protected] Office Hours: Thursdays 12.00PM - 2PM and by appointment COURSE OBJECTIVES Organizations have endless streams of data at hand to help their employees achieve success in managing that organization. There are accounting data, financial data, sales and marketing data, human resources data and information systems data available internally. Organizations conduct surveys to provide them with information about their customers. Data is readily available on the external environment that the organization is part of. There is data that comes from private and public agencies and is often readily available with a brief search on the web. Business 310: (1) Provides an appreciation of the way in which data can be used to assist in solving business problems, (2) Improves recognition of quantitative aspects within a problem to better know when statistical assistance is needed, (3) Provides skills using EXCEL to be able to perform data analyses, (4) Teaches how to communicate statistical results in a clear concise manner and (5) Encourages the use of resources on the internet to enhance communication and learning. TEXTBOOK Business Statistics (5th Ed.) by Levine, Krehbiel, and Berenson, Prentice Hall (ISBN 0-13-606580-5 or 978-0-13-606580-7). COURSE REQUIREMENTS Attendance (1) Please arrive to class on time and do not leave until the class is over (this especially holds for exams). Attendance at ALL classes is expected. (2) Please turn off cell phones in class. (These 2 points are to ensure that your attention and the attention of your classmates in class will not be disrupted) Grading Problem Sets ...... It is a fixed scaled graded class, do study with and aid your classmates. Through helping others, you will also improve your knowledge of the materials.
