Using Frameworks to make meaning out of experience Erikson : evaluate experience through the lens of Erikson’s life stages: Does the achievement of a positive adult identity and high self-esteem depend on an individual’s negotiating all previous stages more or less successfully (autonomy, industry, etc)? Do all people have to complete a set of developmental tasks in order to proceed from adolescence to adulthood? Do you notice people confronting those tasks and working toward resolving any conflicts or uncertainties? Does it seems as if the term identity crisis is relevant to actual experience? If so, what is the nature of the “crisis” and how do individuals get through it? Marcia : evaluate experience through Marcia’s theory of four statuses of adolescence: Can you place people into one of Marcia’s four statuses? Does the idea that adolescents experience different statuses and that most go through a moratorium stage of exploration and experimentation on their way to achieving an independent identity apply?
