Joseph J. Rotman, A First Course in Abstract Algebra with Applications , 3 rd Edition, Pearson Prentice Hall, 2006. Course Content . This is a thorough undergraduate course in abstract algebra covering groups and rings. During the first week we will review some of the preliminary topics from Chapter 1. From there we will proceed to cover Chapter 2 on groups and Chapter 3 on rings. If time remains, we will cover various topics from chapters 5, 6 and 7. Homework . Homework will be assigned on a per week basis with 5 problems starred. The starred problems will be due the following Wednesday.
