Program – is an inactive unit such as a file stored on a disck. A program is not a process to an operatinch system a program or job is a unit of work that has been submitted by the user. process – is an active entity that requires a set of resources including a processor and special registers , to perform its function also called task – single instance of a program in execution thread – is a portion of a process that can run independentyly for eample if your system allows processes to have a isngle thread of control and you want to see a series of pictures on a friend’s web site you can instruct the browser to establish one connection between the two sites and download one picture at a time. proce processor – also knows as the CPU( central processing unit) is the part of the machine that performs the calucaltions and executies the programs Multiprogramming – requires that the processor be allocated to each job or to each process for a period of time and deallocated at an appropriate moment.(108)
