Lindsey Aronoff 8/14/05 Period 7 Laboratory Report Purpose : In this investigation we will solve a scientific problem using the scientific method. We will make careful qualitative and quantitative observations recording accurate experimental data. The main purpose is to conclude which paper towel is the most absorbent based on our experimental data. Safety : Always wear goggles during the lab and wear closed shoes. Don’t forget to take off jewelry and tie your hair back. Procedure : 1) Cut a 2in. strip from each brand of paper towel and the aluminum foil. 2) Measure the mass of a clean dry 50-mL graduated cylinder. Record. 3) Measure exactly 50-mL of water in the graduated cylinder. 4) Mass the water and cylinder. 5) Record the combined mass. 6) Pour the measured water into the 150-mL beaker. 7) Fold the measured strips of paper towel 8) Insert a skewer through the top. 9) Put on paper towel in the water as shown and time for one minute.
