Miguel Alvarez LS2 Tutor Week 6 Session 2 Chapter 42: Reproduction I. Male Reproductive System: a. Testis : contain seminiferous tubules and interstitial cells (such as b. Sertoli cells : Nurtures developing sperm during spermatogenesis. c. Leydig cells : produce testosterone d. Seminiferous tubules : site of sperm production e. Epididymis : final maturation and storage of sperm. f. Vas deferens : transfers sperm from epididymis to the urethra. g. Seminal Vesicles : secrete mucus (liquid) and fructose (energy) and prostaglandins (uterine contraction). h. Prostate gland : secretes milky/alkaline fluid to help neutralize acidity of vagina. i. Bulbourethral glands : neutralizes acidity in the urethra. ***all secrete some fluid content into what creates the semen. j. Urethra : transports the semen out of the penis during ejaculation. II. Female Reproductive System: a. Ovary : (2 ovaries) site of egg (ovum) production. b. Oviduct (fallopian tube) : passageway of egg from ovary to uterus.
