1 EE 211A Digital Image Processing I Fall Quarter, 2010 Handout 14 Instructor: John Villasenor Comments on Computer Assignment 2 1. The IIR filter can be implemented using the following code. The input ) , ( n m x is stored in image_input[][] and the output ) , ( n m y is stored in image_float[][] . The boundary conditions are assured by checking the array indices and setting the output to zero if they are negative. /* Compute the recursion */ for(row = 0; row < image_size; row++) { for(column = 0; column < image_size; column++) { if(row - 1 < 0) { c1 = 0.0; } else { c1 = a * image_float[row - 1][column]; } if((row - 1 < 0) || (column - 1 < 0)) { c2 = 0.0; } else { c2 = b * image_float[row - 1][column - 1]; } image_float[row][column] = c1 + c2 + image_input[row][column]; } } 2. The effect of the IIR filter is to blur the image. The blurring occurs in the direction associated with the largest values of the impulse response. A more symmetric blur could be obtained by cascading several filters, each with a different region of support for the impulse response.

    As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

    The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
