CONFLICT RESOLUTION2Conflict Resolution“Peace is not absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means” (Reagan, brainyquote.com, 2018). This assignment will examine the issues facing the DeKalb County school bus drivers, and the DeKalb County School District. It seems that the DeKalb County school bus drivers have become agitated that their request have not been honored. The drivers feel that they are under paid, they want better retirement benefits, and is just unhappy with the treatment shown toward them. The drivers have decided to engage in an intergraded negotiation strategy among themselves. The drivers agreed to have a “sick – out” to protest the ignoring of their request. They had to be careful as to not describe their absence as a strike. In thestate of Georgia, it is unlawful to have an organized strike (Proto, 2018). The “sick – out” was a resounding success. Students were left waiting for their school bus that did not arrive. Unfortunately, in any conflict there has to be a sacrificial lamb. NegotiationThe DeKalb County school bus drivers and the DeKalb County School District need to engage in an integrative negotiation. Lewicki, Saunders, and Barry, (2015). States this about integrative negotiation “The fundamental structure of integrative negotiation is one within which the parties are able to define goals that allow both sides to achieve their objectives” (p. 111). Both parties should definitely engage in an integrated negotiation strategy to settle this dispute. An integrated negotiation strategy is one where everyone benefits from the strategy. In other words, an integrative negotiation is a win-win for both the school district and the bus drivers. There are several issues that the bus drivers want addressed. Integrated negotiation strategies were designed for conflicts such as this one. Each side has to give and take in order to be successful.
