Ever Changing Earth Name ___________________ Inquiry #1: The Fire Below LEARNING TARGET(S): I can describe how natural and man made processes shape the earth I can model and describe the structure of the earth BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Up to this point you have observed different processes during earth’s history that have shaped its surface. Some of these have been geologic (abiotic) processes and some have been living (biotic) processes. During this investigation you will conduct three brief investigations to discover what actually powers geologic processes on earth. Planet earth has two main sources of energy for geologic processes. Earth receives energy from the sun ( INPUT ) which powers processes like weather and climate (and erosion). Earth also makes its own energy from deep inside the planet ( OUTPUT ). Many of the geologic processes that we think of such as earthquakes, volcanoes, etc are powered by this massive output of energy . This inquiry will mainly be focused on how earth’s output drives many different geologic processes. OBJECTIVE: Determine what exactly powers earth’s geologic processes (from output energy) Determine how earth’s geologic processes are powered.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
