COURSE OUTLINE 2009-2010 BOULDER VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT FAIRVIEW HIGH SCHOOL Course Name : French 2 PIB Course Code : I49 Designated Grade Levels : 9-12 Course Duration : 1 yr Prerequisite/Recommendation : French 1 Credits : 10 Fees (optional ): National French Exam ($ 4) 1-Course Description : The French 2PIB course is conducted primarily in French. Students will build a sound foundation in French through structured practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities. The course emphasizes daily participation and regular demonstration of both oral and written proficiency. In addition to expanding on core material presented in French I, students will master the appropriate verbs, grammar structures, idioms, vocabulary, and cultural information necessary to carry out the general communicative functions. French 2PIB is different from the traditional French 2 class in the following ways: students will be required to do more in-depth applications of the target language in all 4 skill areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. 2-Units of Study or Major Course Topics: The following grammar units will be covered: Regular and irregular verbs in the present, past, imperfect and future tenses, imperative, and conditional moods, direct and indirect object pronouns, pronominal verbs. The major cultural themes will be France and French speaking countries. 3-Learning Materials or Resources planned to be used: Discovering French Blanc : D.C. Heath Discovering French Workbook : D.C. Heath Various 2PIB supplementary readings.
