Chapter 9 Colours can be changed by changing the intensity, saturation and wavelength Extraspectral colours_brown and purple cuz they are not in the visible spectrum Colours help in perceptual organization Blue green yellow red are the basic colours Colours are related to the wavelength of the light. i.e we see the perception. VIMP: perception of colour is associated with the physical property of the wavelength! Light colour is associated with the wavelength Object colour is associated with selective wavelength REFLECTION! Transparent object colour is related to selective transmission Colour range 400nm-700nm Black and white reflect all wavelengths equally. Blkack reflects all White reflects none. But they reflect all the wavelengths equally! (additive)Mixing light: all of the light REFLECTED alone is also reflected when super imposed. (subtracting) Mixing paint: of the light ABSORBED alone is also ABSORBED when super imposed. The only waves that are REFLECTED are those reflected commonly by both! VIMP : if no common colour was reflected by both then it appears blacka s no colour is being reflected. Trichromatic theory of colour vision (Helmholtz)
