CONCEPTION 2 A. Infertility -difficulties with conception a. Age and lifestyle i. Egg supply is limited ii. Quality of egg and sperm 1. Decline by late 30s or early 40s -happens slower for men iii. Exacerbated by poor health b. Biology i. Men -sperm consists of head and tail 1. absent/abnormal sperm production 2. Poor volume, motility, mutations 3. Impairment of delivery a. Retrograde ejaculations -when everything goes back instead of out b. Overacacile -when one of the tubes that goes from testes to the delivery tubes gets a knot in it 4. Temperature -warm will kill off sperms, cold will be better 5. More marijuana use -decreases sperm count ii. Women -damage to uterus or fallopian tubes -scar tissue 1. Scar tissue in uterus - 2. Scar tissue in fallopian tubes -egg cant get to uterus 3. Poor ovulation -poor egg quality 4. Endometriosis -scar tissue pulls organs out of shape and makes it harder to have children a. Can be cleared up by outpatient laser surgery 5. Polycystic ovaries-benign cists interfere with egg
