CONCEPTION 1 Conception -how babies are made A. Theories have changed a lot over time a. Hippocrates -male and female "seeds" i. The male plants his seed into the woman b. Aristotle -woman as receptacle i. Males were default ii. Women were seen as odd, special, or maybe as a defect c. Ovists and animalculists -everything we need to become human is with in the egg or the sperm -at least there are the two sex cells and a distinction i. Either egg or sperm contains fully formed human ii. Other serves as trigger d. Current theory -combination of egg and sperm creates embryo i. Not just the sperm or just the egg ii.
